The number of shoppers over the long Thanksgiving weekend dropped 5.4% and the amount they spent fell 11% from 2013, according to the National Retail Federation. One reason for the decline might be retailers' early promotions, which prompted consumers to spread their spending out over several weeks rather than just several hours, according to the NRF.
